This week, they announced that they will be discontinuing support for Kindles 2012 or older. I.E. Beginning May 20th, you can read already downloaded books, but will no longer be able to download (via purchase or KU borrow) new ones.
You may be able to buy ebooks via another device, load them on a USB drive, and upload them to your old device. But, I wouldn’t bet on that remaining true.
